Athletics

Our Mission for BHS Sports is to be a place where all youth and high school students have a positive, character-building experience that results in ‘Better Athletes Better People’. Our vision stretches far beyond winning a specific game, and focuses on making a lasting impact in the lives of our students.

BHS aspires to be an outstanding educational-athletic organisation that provides a high-quality experience to every student. A high-quality experience is one in which every student:

- Is taught and coached using the principles of Positive Coaching i.e. the Mastery of ELM
- Has fun at practices and games
- Feels like an important part of the team, regardless of the performance and their ability
- Learns “life lessons” that have value beyond the playing field
- Learns the skills, tactics and strategies of the game and improves as a player

We recognise that teachers, coaches and parents are the people who make this all possible. It is our goal to provide every teacher and coach with the tools to succeed as a Positive Coach. We are committed to creating a positive culture, in which coaches, parents and students work together to achieve our Mission.

We encourage students to play a variety of sports and we do not put pressure on them to specialise too early in their career. Students at BHS are at the centre of the Sports Programme. Our coaches and PE teachers encourage the students, and the team as a whole, to focus on their effort and personal improvement, rather than simply on the results of the game. They help students recognise that mistakes are an inevitable and important part of the learning process and that the key to success is being able to rebound from mistakes with renewed determination. This way, students gain a sense of control over their own development and confidence in their ability to succeed in life, as well as in sports.
