 Carol Swainson: cswainson@bhs.bm

Ms. Swainson has over 20 years’ experience as an administrator in K-12 Independent Schools. She most recently served as the founding Head of School for San Francisco Schoolhouse, where she consistently increased enrollment and retention.

She has taught nearly every discipline from grades three to adult. As an accomplished educational leader, Ms. Swainson has also promoted faculty development and leadership within her schools, served on the Community, Teaching, Learning, Primary and Secondary Committees for evaluation and accreditation teams for independent schools, and facilitated presentations and workshops at national conferences.

Ms. Swainson holds a Masters of Education in Social Foundations in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish Languages from the University of Virginia. With a background in the Arts, Ms. Swainson is an amateur oboist, composer and filmmaker. She has also served on the board of two independent schools. 

Catherine Hollingsworth: chollingsworth@bhs.bm

Catherine has over 30 years of teaching, lecturing and leadership experience in both the UK and Dubai. With previous experience in both mixed and all-girls' schools, she has a real understanding for the benefits of all-girls' learning. Her individualised approach to innovative curriculum and learning drives her to ensure that each and every child has a programme that allows them to gain success.

Catherine has an Honours Bachelor degree in Physical Education and Mathematics from the University of Gloucestershire. She played netball at the national level, and is never happier than when working with various netball teams and teaching Physical Education.  The pleasure she gets from students’ success, on either the sports field or in the classroom, is evident.

Nichola Cunha: ncunha@bhs.bm

Mrs Cunha holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University, New Brunswick, Canada, a Bachelor of Education degree from St Thomas University, New Brunswick, Canada, and a Master of Education degree from Mount St Vincent University, Nova Scotia, Canada. She has over 20 years of experience in education as a teacher, in various leadership positions at Harrington Sound Primary, Saltus Grammar School and BHS. Having taught Years 4 to Year 6, Mrs Cunha has served as Mathematics and Numeracy Coordinator, Year Level Leader, VLE Coordinator, and Booster Camp Supervisor. Mrs Cunha also has extensive knowledge of Parent Portals, managing multiple platforms throughout her time at BHS.

Mrs Cunha is excited to step into her new position as Head of Primary and is ready to embrace the challenges it brings. She is committed to building strong partnerships with students, staff, and families. Her aim is to cultivate an environment where every student is valued, supported, and empowered to realise their full potential academically, personally, and as future-forward learners, nurturing the development of the whole child.

James Nightingale: jnightingale@bhs.bm

A dedicated educator, Mr Nightingale holds a First-Class BSc in Geography from the University of Nottingham and an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation & Management from the University of Oxford, where he earned a Distinction. He later completed his PGCE at the University of Gloucestershire, equipping him with the pedagogical expertise to inspire students both inside and outside the classroom. Before joining BHS, Mr Nightingale taught Geography at Prince Henry’s High School and Nunnery Wood High School in the UK, where he also took on leadership roles in pastoral care, sustainability initiatives, and global partnerships. Mr Nightingale has been a key member of the BHS community since 2017, serving as Head of Humanities in the Secondary department. In this capacity, he has overseen a diverse range of subjects, including Geography, History, Business Studies, Economics, and Global Politics, guiding both middle and senior school students through the IGCSE, IB, and A Level curricula. Under his leadership, the Humanities department expanded its offerings and provided students with enriching experiential learning opportunities, including overseas study trips to destinations such as Iceland, Germany and New York.

Sarah Wheddon: swheddon@bhs.bm

Sarah Wheddon has worked at BHS since 2004 and has taught English to students from Years 7 to Y13. Additionally, she has served in the following leadership roles at BHS: Head of Year 7, Head of Year 11 and Head of Upper Years.

Sarah is a hard-working, effective, talented, caring and student-centered educator. She leads by example and has consistently demonstrated that she is an outstanding leader with high professional standards. She is well-respected by BHS stakeholders: students, parents and teachers.
